Note the tires all wadded up. The car is very consistent when the traction is there!

At the tender age of 16 Steve made his first run down a drag strip in Grand Junction Co. in his Dad Sonnys injected SBC powered front engine dragster. After nagging Sonny for months he caved and let Steve drive. Steve was warned to follow his directions to the T or he’d never drive it again. Following those directions he blistered the quarter mile with an 11.00 pass at 100 MPH.
Steve says he still remembers that first run. “Thought I rotated the earth under me” he said. That run kept him unsatisfied till he got to make another pass.

1975 Pocatello Idaho’s Intermountain Raceway, the scene of the next shot, only this time powered by a BBC running in A/ED. Following those same instructions Steve ripped off a 9 second run at 130MPH. Directly after his run he witnessed a devastating crash that left the driver paralyzed. His Dad told him “You’ll never drive again” Yeah right!
1977 Steve starts racing on his own, still crewing for his dad, while driving his red ’66 Fairlane GT. He had tremendous success in this car from ‘77-80 winning the Bracket 2 (now PRO) state championship in ’78 &’79. He thought that was awesome because Sonny won the same championships except in Comp Eliminator.

’81-87 Steve laid off racing for six long, difficult years!
1987-today Steve has been racing continuously since, fielding a few different cars (3). The FED he made his first pass in to the RED he went to the SEMIS in at the “Race of Champions” at LVMS in ’07. And now, the absolutely gorgeous ‘23T bodied Altered you see above and will see much more of this year. Steve has been able to continue to chase his dream because of the quiet support of his wife Annie and the ever cheerleading Sonny.
